The Capital was created by its Scottish proprietor David Levin over 30 years ago and, to this day, it is a family-run hotel. Every piece of furniture, work of art and accoutrement is hand picked or, indeed, commissioned by the Levin family. Hence, it is the family's personally-chosen collection of original paintings which adorn the walls.
The exquisite interiors incorporate the work of acclaimed names from the world of British design such as Nina Campbell, and David Linley, nephew of Her Majesty The Queen. In inclement weather, a welcoming fire burns brightly in the open hearth of the front hall.
The Sitting Room, where one may take morning coffee, afternoon tea and light meals, reflects a traditional country house setting, while the Eaton and Cadogan Rooms are set aside for private dining and business meetings.
There are 49 guest bedrooms in total, including 8 suites and 6 deluxe doubles. The criteria in their design was the creation of rooms of sublime comfort, with the emphasis on refined elegance. Fabrics for many rooms were selected from the Ralph Lauren collection, and each has its own special charm and character. All suites and double rooms have super-king sized beds. Mattresses are handmade and the sheets are of the finest Egyptian cotton, while consoles by each bed control radio, television and lighting.
The magnificent marble bathrooms are equipped with well-proportioned baths and powerful showers. Even the bathrobes and toiletries reflect the attention which has been paid to every detail.

The Capital Restaurant is legendary. Located in Basil Street, in the heart of Knightsbridge, it is currently the only London restaurant situated within a hotel to hold two coveted Michelin stars.
Eric Chavot, the Head Chef, has a following across five continents. His innovative style of cooking is acclaimed by even the most discriminating of restaurant critics.
In the words of Sunday Times columnist AA Gill, "This is as good as you can eat in London."
"...This was three-stars-and-bars cooking; a faultlessly assured, elegant, thoughtful, poignant, intelligent, top-of-the-range, exceedingly-rare handmade dinner."
The Capital Restaurant is a stylishly British design coup. Nina Campbell is responsible for the interior and the façade was handcrafted by David Linley, that well-revered royal. Naturally lit by day, the restaurant softly glows by chandelier at dusk.
With a superlative three-course lunch at just £28.50 per person, and excellent wine from £14.50 per bottle, it is easy to see why The Capital Restaurant has continued to attract the world's gourmets for over 30 years.
Menus change frequently. Currently, starters feature: wild asparagus and poached egg, dandelion and bacon salad; pumpkin risotto with chorizo, crab lasagne with langoustine carpuccio; warm salad of goat cheese with truffle dressing.
Main courses on the à la carte menu include: lobster and slow cooked pork belly boudin blanc and black truffle emulsion; pot-roast pigeon, potato and bacon galette with mushrooms and truffle jus; fillet of sea bass 'nicoise'.
A list of splendid wines has been selected, including the acclaimed Le Vin de Levin from the family vineyard in the Loire. As well as Le Vin de Levin Blanc and Rouge - meant, as advised on the label, to be drunk soon, frequently and preferably in large quantities, there is also a fine wine list, plus excellent dessert wines, including Le Pudding de Levin.
